Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage in Dallas, Texas, on Jan. 4 and 5, and in Augusta, Georgia on Jan. 8, taking audiences on a journey through ancient China. Some audience members said they felt enlightened by the performance.
“I think it’s a complete spiritual expression. Behind the beauty, the artistic beauty, there is such a beautiful, deep spiritual message,” said Francesco Platania, a professor. “It’s a message that soothes your spirit, opens up your mind. It’s an enlightenment.”
“The fact that they’ve integrated the graphics on the back of the stage with what’s happening on stage and the movement that takes place, that’s just top notch,” said Charles Lacey, a former IT administrator.
“They have done an incredible job. Absolutely. It was so touching at times. I almost had tears when I watched it,” said Shirley Hagberg, a former IBM event planner.
“With the explanations of the story, I could understand the story. So that made it much more engaging,” said Ken Seligman, a business owner.
“The athleticism, the beauty, the choreography. Their timing is impeccable,” said Steve Bodtke, a former business owner.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Divinely inspired traditional Chinese culture and values from before communism. Theatergoers said they were touched by the effort and also took note of a deeper message.
“What I liked about it, one of the messages is, if you just be a kind person, a nice person, and respectful person, toward humanity, toward others. That is a good beginning for you to travel into the light,” said Mr. Platania. “And so this is a good awareness for us, to make us realize we got to be better, we got to be nicer, we got to be kinder, we got to search this light instead of being lost in the world we’re living in. So it’s a beautiful thing.”
“I’m sitting there, it creates a cause of meditation, if you will. A calmness, a sereneness, a sincerity,” said Gregory Francisco, a doctor. “Because we get caught up in this fast-paced world and we forget that sometimes with the Divine, with spirituality, we can calm down. We can know ourselves, we can know each other, we can be kind, we can love each other, we can be compassionate to each other.”
“They are awesome. You can tell the practice they put into it. You can tell that they like what they do. I think it’s amazing the way that they use dance to tell the stories. So that’s what I’m really enjoying,” said Mr. Lacey.
Shen Yun will be performing at the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Jan. 11 and 12.
