SAN JOSE—Shen Yun Performing Arts just wrapped up its five performances in San Jose, California, and it’s heading to San Francisco next.
Andrew Daly, a senior computer scientist at DXC, was one of the patrons who experienced Shen Yun at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts.
“It’s incredible. We saw it a few years ago, but this one is even better than before. The blend of colors, and talent, and endurance of these dancers is mindblowing. We really love it,” Mr. Daly said.
Norman Tiedemann, owner of Farm Fresh Chef, said he resonated with Shen Yun’s bel canto vocalist and song.
“It touched me. Touched my heart. Felt true to me—a lot of what was expressed through the lyrics,” said Mr. Tiedemann.
Jacqueline Baker, a legal assistant, said the “music is masterful.”
She also complemented Shen Yun’s dancers.
“The dancing is brilliant. I can’t imagine how many hours of practice those people must put in,” said Ms. Baker.
Carlos Masareje, president of Precision Canning Equipment, said, “I think it’s wonderful. It’s really, really nice. Some of the portions of the show are really mesmerizing.”
Shen Yun’s goal is to revive the essence of its culture through legends, tales, and dance pieces, including portrayals of persecution in modern-day China.
“I can relate in terms of the pain and suffering that we all go through to stand up for what we believe,” said Victor LoBue, a retired oil company president.
“I suppose I see a common thread of similarity between me who happens to be a Catholic, or I happen to be Italian,” said LoBue.
Kristina Tiedemann, a dance instructor, said, “I feel like we don’t have enough of that in the world right now.”
“It’s so beautiful. The dancers—they have such a high level of respect and quality, and you can tell that they are being respected as dancers by their teachers because you can’t create that environment unless you have somebody guiding them on these higher levels of consciousness,” said Ms. Tiedemann.
Ryan Maravilla, a military linguist with the U.S. Army, said the performance’s elegance and humanity were evident. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak the language or if there’s nothing even being spoken, you can understand just through the motion and expression,” he said.
Computer scientist Andrew Daly said, “Definitely come and see it. It’s really worth it.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a non-profit organization based in New York. It currently has eight companies touring around the globe.
