Audience in Connecticut Says Shen Yun Provides a ‘Beautiful Message’

December 31, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage for a sold-out show on Sunday at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut. This marked Shen Yun’s first East Coast Performance of the 2025 touring season.

“I loved it. I’ve been wanting to see it for a long time, and when it came to the palace, just had to come,” said Carol Franson, a communications coordinator.

“It was actually a gift for my husband and I from our best friends. And it was absolutely beautiful. It didn’t disappoint. It was gorgeous. Everything about it was gorgeous, the costumes, the dancers were extraordinary, and the scenery, everything I love the interaction of the performers, sort of melting into the background, going back and forth. I just loved it. I thought it was beautiful.”

“The energy from the dancers was amazing,” said Karen Roberts, a horse trainer. “The power that you felt from it, in a positive way, was very good.”

New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism.

“I think it’s important for us to understand Chinese culture, and not just what we hear in the media,” said Ed Roberts, the director of student enrollment services at Touro University. “I think it’s critical today.”

“I loved the feeling it gave you, the divineness really, really touched me. It was positive energy, it’s something we need in this country right now, and it was a beautiful message,” said Ms Roberts.

“The message of kindness and goodness, of faith, is a message we all need to hear, and that’s been lost a little bit in America the past few years,” said Mr. Roberts.

Chinese culture is said to be divinely inspired, and some audience members commented on the spirituality of the performance.

“It was very spiritual. You know, sometimes you see dance that’s very classical,” said Ms. Franson.

“This seemed to speak spiritually as well, at least that’s what I got from it. It was very spiritual and very beautiful. Yes, oh my goodness, it’s like we’re all one. We’re all one. You know, it seems to me, the message is beauty and kindness and unity of all people.”

“I loved the singings, absolutely loved the message behind them. I loved hearing the instruments … I have forgotten the name of it. That was amazing,” said Ms. Roberts. “So professionally done, extremely professionally done.”

Shen Yun will be in San Francisco on Jan. 2.
