Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States would support the new leader of Syria if they protect women and renounce terrorism. NTD discusses this with Kervin Aucoin, a former lead intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance coordinator for the U.S. Army in Europe and the host of the “This Week Explained” podcast, who says the United States along with Russia, Turkey, and other geopolitical groups have a stake in the new government of Syria. Aucoin says Russia wants kickbacks from its investment in former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s rule, while Turkey has interests in opposing the Kurds.
