Shen Yun Performing Arts concluded three performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, Florida, on Jan. 11 and 12. Audience members got a glimpse of China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture and values from before communism, a culture believed to be inspired by the divine.
“Every aspect of it was an amazing portrayal of excellence. I like the fact that there are things that pertain to truthfulness, part of one of the core values that really resonates with us in the Western Hemisphere. And we like that truthfulness is an antidote against communism,” said M.J. Bixby, a business owner. “The level of professionalism, the ballet, the expertise, the flexibility, you can see that it’s second to none.”
“I think it’s a great message for everyone because it’s a message like a spiritual awakening for everybody that kindness, human kindness still exists and that’s the path that we should take as human beings,” said Jake Figueroa, a graphic designer.
“This overarching concept of a divinity of all of the people I think is very interesting and that it plays out in a variety of the cultures within China to me is interesting,” said Kai Jacobs, an attorney.
“I found it so amazing, the stories being told. And through the dancing you were able to catch the feeling and the moment. You were able to catch the story itself. It was really powerful,” said Ana Maria Estrada, an actress.
Shen Yun travels with a live orchestra that blends traditional Chinese instruments with Western instruments. Theatergoers were deeply impressed and praised Shen Yun highly.
Jean Rodriguez, a singer & songwriter, said: “the music was fantastic. You mix that with the visual components and the energy was just incredible, the musicianship was beautiful, just beautiful.”
“At first I thought the music was piped in, and then I saw the people there and I thought wow that’s really amazing. Because the music was so … It really filled the room, it was quite amazing. And I loved the blending of the styles,” said Steve Slack, a senior database consultant.
Millah Barbosa, a business owner, said: “it’s very healing, very meditative. The orchestra, it’s amazing and the quality of the dance, the technique and how precise they are, the precision, it’s very spot-on.”
Elena Stungis, the vice president of a company, said: “the sound was so blended and smooth. It’s very well synchronized, synchronized with all the moves. It’s amazing how from the orchestra pit they can know exactly to the second of what’s coming, what’s happening.”
“It was lovely to listen to that and get fade away a little bit into that kind of culture and music. And it was a great escape, but it was also a taste of ancient China,” said Jeff Rosen, a business owner.
“I love the production, the whole interaction between the virtual how they jumped on the screen and back out. Also the costumes were beautiful,” added Mr. Rodriguez. “Definitely recommend it. So definitely go out if you have a chance, check it out. It’s a beautiful show, you’re definitely going to enjoy it.”
Shen Yun will be performing at the Youkey Theatre in Lakeland, Florida, on Jan. 14 and 15.
