Shen Yun Captivates Japanese Audience: ‘Majestic and Beautiful’

January 14, 2025

Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully closed the curtain in Sakai, Japan, on Jan. 11. Audience members got a glimpse into 5,000 years of divinely-inspired traditional Chinese culture and values from before communism.

“I thought it was very majestic and beautiful. I thought that everyone was well-trained,” said Soki Tsuda, the executive of a company.

“It was wonderful. It’s the first time I’ve seen it. The costumes were more beautiful than I expected and the dance was amazing,” said Mitsuru Kinomoto, a university professor.

“The women’s amazingly slow, fast, and relaxed movements, especially the fairy-like movements, touched my heart as I had never watched them for such a long time before.”

“It was my first time to see something related to this kind of dance, and I was honestly impressed by how beautiful it was and how overwhelming it was to see them jumping around, it’s something I had never seen before, and I had no knowledge of it. I was amazed,” said Naoki Ueno, a company director. “I thought the way human beings live has not changed since ancient times. I made this link today. I was able to learn something I did not know. I hope I can convey this to others.”

“I thought it was wonderful. In particular I thought the classical Chinese and Western instruments blended together well,” said Yuji Okuno, the senior executive of a company. “I felt that the music was well matched to each performance, to the grandeur of the event, or to the sadness or happiness of the piece.”

“I felt [the live orchestra] was very powerful and was closing in all over my body. I also thought that the erhu was a beautiful instrument,” said Yukihiro Tokuyama, a lawyer. “The background and the dancers were well synchronized, and the story of the Monkey King, which I loved, had a very realistic feel to it.”

“I think culture is very important. Especially in this chaotic modern era, I think it is good because in a way, it becomes a source of comfort for the heart,” said Kinomoto.

“I could feel a great power coming through, I felt the urge to do something,” said Masaki Ikeda, a company director. “I could feel only great emotion, I could feel a great positive attitude, and I would like to start dealing with life positively again tomorrow.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Saitama, Japan, from Jan. 14 through 16.
