Shen Yun Performing Arts drew a full house for two performances on Feb. 11. The New-York based classical dance company has toured around the world with a live orchestra since 2006. It started with one, but is now eight equally large companies performing simultaneously across the globe.
Dr. Artemis Morris is the medical director and founder of Artemis Wellness Center. She is also a professor at the University of Bridgeport. She brought her mother, two children, and a friend to see Shen Yun.
“This is out of the world. Congratulations with all my heart,” said Joy Morris, the mother of Dr. Morris. “Tears to my eyes when I saw this. It was amazing, beautiful.”
“I actually got tears toward the end as well,” said Martin Brogie, the president of MBI Connecticut. “The talent and the dedication and the work that these guys have put in is just amazing.”
“I’ve been wanting to see this show for years,” said Dr. Morris. “Shen Yun is a combination of a history that is something that is so relevant for today in a view, beautiful visual. It’s the sensory experiences with the music and the ancient rhythms.”
Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of genuine traditional Chinese culture through music and dance.
Allen Hill, the owner of a pipe organ consulting company, said Shen Yun’s mission is marvelous. “It’s so sad what’s going on socially in the world, [Shen Yun] is a very beautiful [show] to bring to people all over.”
“I came a year ago and it inspired me, so today I brought my significant other and two dear friends, and I think they’re having a very similar experience,” said Matthew Gordon, a Connecticut Superior Court Judge.
“The stories resonated with me, especially the last one about the family who lost their daughter,” he added. “That story actually about the communist suppression of the people trying to express how they felt, that resonated with me.”
The audience said Shen Yun is bringing powerful values to the world.
“The message is a universal message,” said Dr. Morris. “Truth, compassion, forbearance, I mean, what else is going to bring us together, after so much of what has gone on?” She added. “Environmentally, politically, socially, we really need those three messages.”
“The message that is really resonating here is about compassion, love, and forbearance, and the future and divine intervention and hope for humanity and good. It really resonated for me today,” said Mr. Brogie.
“All the hard work that goes into this and the talent that’s developed, and the opportunity for all these people to travel around the world and bring this beautiful message is just incredible, very inspiring,” Mr. Brogie added.
“It’s very positive. It leaves you with the high spirits, you feel uplifted after that,” said Anna Bom, a church organist.
“The spiritual aspect is also very inspiring. It’s got me thinking, makes me want to grow and be a better person,” said Mr. Gordon. “I think it can help society a lot. I think if more people saw this, they would be happy and feel empowered.”
“Seeing how people are keeping that alive so that we can enjoy. It’s a very heartfelt, beautiful experience, and I really appreciate being able to be here, and for the people who helped to continue the history so that we can continue to hear the message,” said Dr. Morris. “Thank you for that and the beautiful performance.”
Shen Yun is performing in eight cities in the United States, as well as France, Germany, and South Korea this week.
