New York City Audience Touched by Shen Yun’s Performance

Shen Yun Performing Arts brought China’s 5,000 years of culture alive at the David H. Koch Theater at New York City’s Lincoln Center on April 7. Audience members said they were moved by the values rooted in those traditions.

“It was very profound, on all levels. The costume, the set design, the music, the dance itself, all the aspects were really, really, really enjoyable,” said Biljana Labovic, the animation director at TED Conferences.

“I thought it was excellent and educational. The digital transition from the stage to that screen in the back was really an excellent added attraction and angle and development,” said Dean Steele, an attorney.

“I like how they brought religion and spirituality into so many little vignettes. That has touched me,” said Michael Smith, a representative of Smith Associates.

Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture and values were inspired by the divine. Theatergoers said they felt a deep message from Shen Yun’s performance.

Mr. Smith said those values are also important for the present world.

“It’s something that we all have to bring back into our life the way the world is right now. We need to bring peace and respect.”

“The circle of kindness came around when someone did something nice, and then it came back to them. It was really a good message for the children especially,” said Mr. Steele.

Audience members applauded Shen Yun’s efforts to revive an art form that was once almost lost under modern-day China’s communist rule.

“The education and that spirituality, it’s part of the story, and it comes across very nicely. And definitely enlightens people,” said Ms. Labovic.

For Mr. Smith, Shen Yun’s performance was refreshing, eye-opening, and a delight to have seen.

“Come see it. It is eye-opening. It’s refreshing spirituality-wise. But it’s also refreshing to see the amount of artistry from the costumes to the beautiful music and how they’re depicting different things.”

“You absolutely have to come see this. Make a way, get here. Wherever the show is performing, get your tickets,” said Annette Exposito, a real estate agent.

“Beautiful, it’s a perfect show. It’s spotless, mind blowing,” said Jean-Michel Blottiere, the founder and CEO of RealTime Conference.

Shen Yun is performing at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City through April 14.
