New York City’s Central Park is a breath of fresh air in the concrete jungle complete with waterfalls, a castle, and over 50 miles of pedestrian routes. But that’s not all, it offers a connection with nature, opportunities to play sports, and the intangibles: empty, wide open spaces to see the skyline.

NTD speaks to Pauline Frommer, the co-president of Frommer Guidebooks, who explains the millennia-old Cleopatra’s Needle, the dispute between the mayor and the National Guard over the use of Sheep Meadow, and the fountain that signifies the engineering feat of bringing fresh water to the city allowing it to thrive becoming the metropolis it is today.
