Gan Jing World, a new digital content platform designed to be non-addictive, has unveiled a new “unique library-style” homepage that helps users take full control of their digital experience, the company announced in a statement.
First launched in June 2022, the social media platform recently revealed a new user interface that features a “clear and intuitive categorization system” to simplify users’ ability to find content. Users can pin topics suited to their interests, which are then sorted into primary, secondary, and subcategories.
The new system streamlines users’ search efforts and tailors the user’s experience to what they choose, according to the statement.
Social media platforms such as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, use AI-generated passive algorithm-driven feeds that give users content based on their activities while using the platforms.
Different from most social media platforms, Gan Jing World uses a non-addictive algorithm to encourage users to select what is shown on their feed for a more “active learning” online experience.
“Users can easily browse diverse content and knowledge, making their online time more controlled and meaningful,” the company wrote.
Gan Jing World said in its mission statement that it aims to create a “digital community filled with wholesome content, free from gratuitous violence, sex, crime, and objectively harmful behavior” for social media users.
Nick Janicki, director of media relations at Gan Jing World, told The Epoch Times in a recent interview that non-addictive algorithms are a distinctive and important feature of Gan Jing World. The platform is designed to prioritize valuable information and inspirational content, freeing users from endless video feeds.
On the homepage, users can personalize their “Main Categories” feed by pinning their favorite categories. Users can also subscribe to creators and “Follow” specific topics to customized content recommended to them.
In May 2023, Janicki told NTD that “when someone comes on, they really should have an intent to learn or uplift themselves.”
“When you come onto the platform, you’re basically going to select categories of things that you want to be recommended to, and this is especially important for children,” he said. “So when you sign up, privacy is taken very, very seriously.”
Users can access some free content on the platform’s app, while subscription-based content is available on the GJW+ Streaming platform.
