Ready-to-eat sausage and hot dog products from two different manufacturers have been recalled, said the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Monday in separate statements.

The larger of the two recalls concerned 6,900 pounds of ready-to-eat hot dogs produced that were not inspected by the department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) officers before being shipped to retailers.

The hot dogs, with a shelf life of 45 days, were made by AW Farms of Kentucky on various dates since May 30.

The products included 10-lb. boxes with two 5 lb. vacuum-packed packages each, labeled with one of the following:

  • “FRENCH CITY FOODS 6′ 12-1 HOTDOGS” and the date on or after May 30, 2024 on the label
  • “PORK, BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL MEAT HOTDOGS” with the “PACKED ON” date of May 30 or later. These products were frozen.
  • “GEO BROWN ALL BEEF HOTDOGS” that were “PACKED ON” various dates on or after May 30 that were also frozen.

The recalled products have “EST. 47635” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to hotels and restaurants in Ohio and West Virginia.

A state public health partner notified FSIS about the products, which were investigated and deemed not to have been federally inspected during production and distribution.

No adverse reactions to the products have been confirmed, and consumers were advised to contact a health care provider if they think they experienced any effects.

FSIS advised that the products may be in hotel or restaurant refrigerators or freezers and should not be served. They can be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

The smaller of the two recalls was with Taylor’s Sausage, Inc., which the FSIS said involved approximately 74 pounds of ready-to-eat Landjaeger sausage products being recalled.

FSIS said in a statement that the recall was due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.

FSIS workers discovered the mistake during a routine plant inspection when they observed soy being used as an ingredient not listed on the finished product label.

The impacted products are 14.4 oz. vacuum-packed packages containing 12 pieces each of “TAYLOR’s Sausage Hot LANDJAEGER” with lot code “23342-2” and a use-by date of “12 8 25” on the back of the package.

The products being recalled have “EST. 6172″ inside the USDA’s mark of inspection. They can be found in stores in California and Oregon.

No adverse reactions to the product have been confirmed.

NTD News reached out to both Taylor’s Sausage and AW Farms for comment but did not receive a response by publication time.

Insurance claim manager Sedgewick reported that food recalls by the USDA and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) increased 18.5 percent from the last quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, with 147 recalls total during that three-month period.

Mislabeling and unknown allergens were the reason for the highest number of recalls, but those recalls typically involved a relatively small number of units. The category with the largest number of units recalled was bacterial contamination. A much smaller number of recalls and units involved foreign material.
