President-elect Donald Trump is partly opposed to birthright citizenship in that in his view, it has been interpreted to include granting citizenship to children of illegal border crossers.
According to Austin Raynor, an attorney and special counsel for the Pacific Legal Foundation’s Supreme Court practice, Trump can challenge that interpretation with an executive order. However, Raynor says there may be legal challenges if Trump decides to go this route, and that the issue could end up at the Supreme Court.
