South Korea’s foreign ministry summoned China’s ambassador on Friday over his “provocative” remarks toward South Korean diplomacy.
The Chinese envoy Xing Haiming had warned Seoul for “making bets” in the U.S.-China rivalry in his remarks at a meeting with the head of South Korea’s main opposition party. He also urged Seoul to respect Beijing’s stance on Taiwan, as well as to stop “decoupling” from China.
As a U.S. ally, Seoul has been seeking to increase its ties to Washington after the new president stepped up.
