Traditional Chinese Culture Meets Historic City in Spain: Shen Yun in Seville

March 15, 2023

SEVILLA, Spain—Shen Yun Performing Arts concluded its tour in Spain with a performance in Seville, the fourth largest city in the country. For three days, audience members traveled from different parts of Spain to watch the performance, some visiting from far away.

“We traveled 120 miles to see Shen Yun. What we have seen so far is a kind of coordination that I had never seen before in a show, this is what stood out the most to me,” said Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, former president of the regional government of Extremadura. “On top of the colors, the movements,
and the 3D animated backdrop that makes dancers disappear and reappear on stage. Everything was fantastic, and I didn’t see a single shortcoming in the performance, I thought it was spectacular!”

“The choreography especially reflects light, the light in people. It reflects the soul of Mother Nature, which moves us every single day,” said Alejandra Sabena, a dancer.

Juliana Ro is a model and Miss International Spain of 2022. She said she was impressed by the color and fabrics of the costumes, “they pair very well with the dance.”

Ro added: “culture is never superfluous. In addition to art, knowledge is primordial and it opens our minds and expands our boundaries. And life is too short to miss what’s around us. So I think [programs like this are] essential.”

The mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, said history is very important for any country, be it China or Spain, “for any place in the world that forgets about its roots, that forgets its DNA, that forgets its history, that’s a country that won’t have any future.”

Muñoz said efforts to recover culture and identity are an obligation for every country.

Shen Yun will return to Europe on March 24 with shows in Switzerland and Belgium.
