New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri on March 2 and 3. Audience members said the performance left some of them speechless.
“Very, very beautiful. It’s an amazing performance and it really touches your soul,” said George Fotiadis, a standards captain at Omni Air International.
“It leaves me speechless, it’s stunning. Dance choreography is amazing, the colors are magnificent,” said John Girardi, a physician at Emergency Consultants.
“I could see the honor and the dignity in the dance and the way they performed. Very majestic at times,” said John Clark, a retired sergeant from the U.S. Army.
Shen Yun draws its inspiration from China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture from before communism. A culture that ancient Chinese people believed was inspired by the divine.
“I think it would be a great loss for the world to lose this culture,” said Mr. Girardi.
Allen Moss, an attorney, was left deeply touched after seeing Shen Yun perform.
“It touched my heart. It made me understand and become even more aware of the oppression the people in China are going through at this time.”
Stephen Mettis, a retired financial analyst from International Paper Company, said: “I think it’s extremely important. We’ve lost sight of our histories and it’s very sad that youth of today doesn’t appreciate what it took for our ancestors to get a couple thousand years ago until today. And in the case of China, it’s 5,000 years.”
Audience members commended Shen Yun’s artistry, and highlighted its efforts to revive Chinese tradition in the arts.
“My wife and I both were in tears due to just the beauty and awe of the performance. And the beauty of the costumes and the skill of the performers. And not to mention just the performers, the orchestra as well. The music is beautiful,” said Mr. Fotiadis. “If you have a chance to see Shen Yun, you won’t regret it. Please come down and see it.”
“I would encourage every one of them to come see this because the China we see in the news media is not the China that existed before the Revolution in the 1940’s,” said Mr. Moss.
