Sam Oosterhoff, Member of the Provincial Parliament for Niagara West watched Shen Yun opening night in Toronto, Canada on March 26.
He was very impressed with the performance, but what struck him the most was the values that it showcased through the performance.
“There are so many people here this evening, it’s something that people clearly care about and it was a real privilege to be able to see it for myself,” said Oosterhoff.
“World-class, world-class would be the best way to describe it. Whether it’s from the excellent dancing or to the caliber of the orchestra as well. Some of the really neat ways that the perspectives change also between the backdrop and everything else. It was absolutely stunning when it came to be the art that was on the scene, and it was something I would definitely invite people back for and recommend to friends.”
Shen Yun draws inspiration from China’s 5,000 years of civilization and the virtues it has long embraced and passed down through its culture.
“It showcased the best of Chinese culture. And it really also showed the importance of tolerance, forbearance, and compassion, some of those core values in Falun Dafa and Falun Gong,” he added. “Most beautiful things about Falun Dafa is its appeal to a lot of those values that we hold as members of liberal democracies. And cherish freedom, but also tolerance, forbearance, compassion. Some of those real values that are not just traditional Chinese values, but I think values that we all should hold to as members of a free and respectful society. So it was great to see those being showcased this evening, and I think there’s a lot of lessons that can be learned in the middle of this type of performance.”
“It was very, very much both a cultural experience, a spiritual experience. One that I think a lot of people would benefit from having the chance to participate in,” he added.
