Shen Yun Performing Arts made its first stops of its 2024 touring season at the Nagoya Congress Center in Nagoya, Japan. Yoshiyuki Taira, an executive of an automobile company, described the excitement he felt after watching the show for the first time.
“I’m so excited right now!” He added: “It’s so wonderful. It’s the first time in my life I’ve come to see a show like this, and I didn’t expect to be so moved.”
Other audience members described the performance as “magical.” Showgoers praised the colorful costumes and the vibrant backdrop.
“It was wonderful, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Kazuo Takada, a hospital director. “It was wonderful, [the performance] was so magical. Such beautiful dancing, it was perfect.”
Takada also said: “In particular, the coordination between the backdrop and the dance was truly an extraordinary masterpiece. I was very moved by such a unique and rare experience.”
“There was comedy, and the music matched so well with the backdrop,” said Atsuji Morikawa, a company executive. “The whole program kept me entertained without tiring.”
Shuji Niimi, a doctor, expressed appreciation for gaining a deeper understanding of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. “It was my first time to see Shen Yun and I was really touched,” he said. “My wife is Chinese, and I am very interested in Chinese dance, but I don’t usually have the chance to watch it. This time I had the opportunity to watch Shen Yun, and I learned about Chinese classical dance and Chinese history, and I felt more and more the profoundness of Chinese history.”
Several business people loved the experience and praised the blend of classical culture with modern events. They stressed the importance of passing down traditional culture to the next generation.
“Every performer was so professional, it’s wonderful,” said Yoshiko Saito, a company president. “I hope everyone comes to see it. It’s fantastic. I’m so happy today to be able to experience Chinese culture.” He added: “Chinese traditional culture has been passed down continuously. I hope that this beautiful tradition will always be cherished. I hope that we Japanese people will similarly pass down our own cultural traditions.”
“The show was rich and well-balanced, encompassing everything from classical culture to recent happenings,” said Toshihiro Kakimoto, a company chairman. “The artistic director who produced the show so well is truly remarkable.” He added: “Whether it’s China or Japan, I think we should pass down the culture to the next generation.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts continues to spread traditional Chinese culture as performances begin in the United States and Europe.
