Republicans have unveiled their report on the Biden administration’s Afghanistan withdrawal. It focuses on the deaths of 13 service members as the Taliban closed in on Kabul, and accuses the administration of placing more emphasis on optics than the safety of U.S. troops.

William Ruger discussed the issue with NTD. He’s a retired U.S. Navy officer, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, and the president of the American Institute for Economic Research. He says that instead of focusing so much on Biden’s withdrawal or Trump’s decision to leave Afghanistan, congress should question why both military and civilian leaders kept the United States in “a 20-year forever war with no theory of strategic victory.”
