President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Susan Wiles will serve as White House chief of staff. Wiles is the daughter of the late NFL broadcaster Pat Summerall and a veteran Florida political strategist. She acted as Trump’s chief of staff during his post-presidency and led his campaign throughout the entire 2024 race for the White House.
With just 25 House seats left to be called, Republicans are inching closer to the 218 seats needed for a House majority. If successful, some of their first priorities look set to include confronting China, boosting oil and gas production, expanding school choice, and cutting the size and scope of the federal government.
Strong winds have fanned a California wildfire that has spread to more than 20,000 acres. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Ventura County, where around 14,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. The fire has destroyed more than 100 structures so far.
