The White House says it’s working to avert an escalation after an exchange of strikes between Israel and Hezbollah. The Iran-backed terrorist group launched hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel on Aug. 25. Israel’s military said about 100 of its fighter jets struck targets in Lebanon during preemptive strikes. Israel further stated that it destroyed all of Hezbollah’s missiles and drones during the attack.

The United States has added 105 Russian and Chinese firms to a trade restriction list over their alleged support for Russia’s military. About 40 Chinese companies were added to the list, along with 60 from Russia. Roughly 20 firms were targeted from other countries.

French authorities have reportedly detained the cofounder and CEO of the Telegram messaging app, Pavel Durov. Many in the industry are concerned that the move could have profound implications for free speech online.
