A second malaria vaccine has been approved by the World Health Organization to help the people of Africa and is expected to be rolled out in early 2024. NTD spoke to Doctor Prakash Srinivasan, an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute to learn more about the function and promises of the new vaccine, as well as what Americans can do to lower their risk.
Dr. Srinivasan says there is no reason to panic because the U.S. healthcare system is quite strong and can deal with it. He believes the challenges are primarily associated with Americans’ perceptions of malaria as a foreign disease.
