NTD’s Global Chinese Beauty Pageant is driving a return to classy, traditional beauty. Thirty-two contestants made the cut for the pageant, gathering in New York from around the globe for a mission: competing to restore aesthetic values found in traditional Chinese culture.
Cynthia Sun, one of the contestants, said: “90 percent nerve-wracking, 10 percent exciting, I think all of the contestants really did such a great job.”
NTD’s Global Chinese Beauty Pageant pushes for a return to true beauty. Contestants participated in a set of trainings to deepen their understanding of traditional culture.
Belle Meng, another contestant, said: “I’m pretty excited. Even though we’re competing against each other, but actually everyone is very willing to help other people and hope them to get better.”
Beyond appearance, NTD’s pageant places a great emphasis on inner beauty. Contestants will be judged on five essential values: morality, righteousness, propriety, benevolence, and faithfulness.
“It gives us a chance to show that not only we’re beautiful outside, but we have a lot of deep thoughts and we have a lot of ways that we want to inspire other young women to do the same in society,” said Ms. Sun.
Gabriel Georgiou, one of the judges for the pageant, said: “It’s kind of nice to judge things based on the energy that the girls exude. And also, you know, their inner self, their inner beauty … and based on morality and virtues. So you take both things into account, which is very different.”
The winner will be crowned with a sapphire tiara and bring home a $10,000 grand prize. She’ll then go on to travel around the world, promoting the essence of traditional aesthetic values.
The final competition is set for this coming Saturday. Tickets are available online at MissNTD.org. Or call 929-999-1168.
