Stress on teaching staff is at an all-time high in Connecticut, according to a new survey by the Connecticut Education Association. Devlin Peck, an advisor to instructional designers, says teacher burnout is on the rise across the country because so many teachers are quitting, while those who stay have to pick up the slack.

NTD speaks to Jim Keyes, the former CEO of Blockbuster and 7-Eleven and the author of “Education is Freedom,” who says low pay and students who are not engaged are contributing to this increase in stress. He called on each member of society to offer teachers “the respect that they deserve” to help alleviate the problem.
