Israel and Hamas have agreed to a deal that includes the release of Israeli hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza, according to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

“We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!” Trump posted on his TruthSocial social media account on Jan. 15.

Trump provided no further details. International media have swirled with reports that a deal was close, but also reports of last-minute snags.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the agreement is not a done deal.

Hamas backed down on a last-minute demand that the Israeli military “change the deployment of forces on the Philadelphi corridor,” which is on the Egypt–Gaza border, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office, citing “Netanyahu’s firm stance.”

“However, there are still several unfinished items in the outline, and we hope that the details will be finalized tonight,” said the office.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow.
