In a rare point of agreement, both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump say they want to abolish taxes on tips. In addition, there is a similar bipartisan bill currently before Congress. However, economists are now weighing in on the issue, and explaining why the move might encourage a drive toward more gratuity-based remuneration for workers, which could lead to wage growth being stifled.
