North Carolina has seen a big influx of people over the last four years and that could shift the margins in the state, if not cause it to flip from Republican to Democratic. The 400,000 or so new registered voters are concentrated in urban and suburban counties that shifted Democratic from 2016 to 2020. If all of these newcomers voted for Vice President Harris, that would be more than enough to flip the state, although unlikely. However, if they voted in line with the margins in 2020, that would equate to about 13,000 more votes for Harris, when former President Donald Trump carried the state by 74,000 votes. So that would be about a fifth of the margin, which is critical considering all of the other factors in the state, like the black vote, that could shift the results.
