Louisiana State Police have issued an arrest warrant for former LSU football player standout Kyren Lacy in connection with a fatal road accident he was allegedly involved in, authorities announced Friday.

Lacy, 24, of Thibodaux, is wanted on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle for an accident that occurred last month in Lafourche Parish, police said in a Jan. 10 statement.

Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports, released a statement the same day related to the allegations, noting that Lacy is “fully cooperating” with police.

“We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation,” the statement, released in a post on X, reads. “Out of respect for the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time.”

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette said in a statement to The Associated Press the university has “no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process.”

The collision occurred on Dec. 17 on Louisiana Highway 20 near Perez Lane.

Louisiana State Police allege Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger southbound when he attempted to pass multiple vehicles at high speed in a no-passing zone.

When Lacy allegedly tried to make the illegal pass, the driver of a pickup truck headed northbound braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the football star. Following behind that truck was a 2017 Kia Cadenza, which swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger, crossed over the center line, and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.

Herman Hall, 78, of Thibodaux, a passenger in the Kia Sorento, was critically injured in the crash and later pronounced dead at an out-of-area hospital, the police said.

Police claim Lacy fled the scene without stopping to report his involvement or check on the condition of the other drivers.

Louisiana State Police Troop C led the investigation and was able to identify Lacy as the alleged driver of the Dodge Charger that caused the crash.

Police said they are in communication with Lacy and his legal team to turn himself in.

The drivers of both the Kia Cadenza and Kia Sorento sustained moderate injuries in the crash. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

On Dec. 19, two days after the accident, Lacy declared for the NFL draft.

Lacy finished the 2024 season second in catches with 58 and yards receiving with 866. He also led the team in touchdowns, receiving nine in 12 games. He did not play in LSU’s win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 31.
