Dr. Ioannis Filippatos of European Boxing Confederation and International Boxing Association (IBA) Secretary General Chris Roberts were among other boxing officials at a Monday press conference who called out the International Olympic Committee’s qualifying rules that allowed Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting to compete in its women’s division.
The IBA held the press conference to clarify the association’s position on disqualifying Khelif and Lin during the 2023 World Championships competition.
“The results of the chromosome tests demonstrated both boxers were ineligible,” Roberts told the press conference. He also offered his thoughts to reporters about the differences in requirements to take part in the IBA’s women’s division.
Dr. Filippatos said to attending reporters, “let’s protect women. That means women’s category must be only women.”
