Dressbarn is shutting down 62 more stores as part of its plan to close down all stores by the end of this year.
Nine stores across eight states were scheduled to be closed in July with another 53 slated to be shuttered in August, according to a list released by the company (pdf).
The August closings include seven stores in California, five in Maryland, five in New York, four in Florida, four in Massachusetts, three in Louisiana, and three in Michigan.
Exact dates were not listed for the stores on the list. Twenty-five stores were closed in June.
The company said it has started “store closing or inventory clearance event sales” at the stores.
“We encourage customers to take advantage of deeper discounts, shop early for the best selection, and use any outstanding gift cards. Our teams remain committed to providing our customers with the same great experience both in-store and online, while offering them even better deals and value,” said Steven Taylor, chief financial officer of the company, in a statement.
Landlords are pleased with the plan to wind down the company’s stores, he said.
“We have received overwhelming landlord support for our plan, which will allow us to implement our wind down in a manner that provides the best recovery for our landlords. Further, we are current, and expect to remain so, with our vendors and suppliers,” according to Taylor.
While Dressbarn plans to shutter all of its stores by the end of the year, it has retained a company, Hilco Streambank, to seek parties interested in its intellectual property assets such as domain names.
“The Dressbarn customer is loyal and cares deeply for the brand,” Taylor noted.
David Peress, executive vice president of Hilco Streambank, added, “A buyer of the Dressbarn brand has the unique opportunity to connect with a devoted customer base and build upon a brand heritage with a well-established presence throughout the U.S.”
Dressbarn currently has approximately 625 stores across the nation, employing about 6,400 associates. It was founded in 1962 in Stamford, Connecticut before growing into a nationwide chain.
The company announced in May that it would shut down all of its stores.
“For more than 50 years, Dressbarn has served women’s fashion needs, and we thank all of our dedicated associates for their commitment to Dressbarn and our valued customers. This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment,” Taylor said at the time.
“During the wind down process, we will continue to provide our customers with the same great experience both in-store and online, offering them even better deals and value. We will work to assist our associates through the transition and maintain existing relationships with our vendors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders through this process.”
