Cribs Sold at Amazon, Cymax, Walmart Recalled Due to Entrapment Hazard
A recalled South Shore crib. (CPSC)

South Shore Industries has voluntarily issued a recall for around 1,200 cribs due to an entrapment hazard, according to the company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The cribs’ slats are spaced farther apart than regulations allow, violating the federal regulation safety standard for full-sized cribs, the agency announced in the recall. The openings between the slats are between 3 mm and 5.5 mm wider than allowed, posing a potential entrapment hazard to children, the recall stated.

Priced between $415 and $475, the cribs were sold online at Amazon, Cymax, Walmart, and on the South Shore website. According to the company, a total of 971 affected products were sold in the United States.

The recall applies to cribs in the Balka and Olena product lines in white and natural wood colors sold between July 2020 and Feb. 2024. The cribs are made of wood and measure about 54 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 37 inches high.

Consumers with the impacted items can identify the specific model numbers and order numbers on the label, which is located on the inside at the bottom of one end of the crib. The recalled cribs include Balka and Olena lines in pure white with the model numbers 13825, 12938, and 14408, and the Balka crib in pure white and natural wood with the model numbers 13824 and 12937.

South Shore advised customers to immediately stop using the cribs and to contact the company for information on how to disassemble the product. As of Nov. 20, there have been no reported injuries or incidents related to the recalled item in the United States and Canada.

Owners of the affected products can obtain a refund by filling out a recall notice form, the company said.

“The safety and well-being of our consumers are of the utmost importance to us. We are committed to continuously enhancing our products to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and safety,” the company wrote.

Customers can contact the company at 1-800-290-0465 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday, or by email at [email protected].

Dorel Wall Beds Recall

Furniture company Dorel Home Furnishings is recalling about 69,300 wall beds due to serious impact and crush hazards, the CPSC posted in a recall report.

The recall involves Dorel full- and queen-sized wall beds sold online under the names Pinnacle, Paramount, Impressions, Holly Hills, and Her Majesty wall beds, and as part of the brand names Signature Sleep or Novogratz.

The recall follows 22 reports of the affected wall beds detaching from the wall and falling, leading to 10 injuries including concussions, contusions, and cuts and bruises, the agency stated.

The wall beds were sold in white, light oak, gray oak, black oak, espresso, walnut, and natural shades, with or without cabinets and lighting attached to the bed frame.

The impacted product was sold online from retailers including Wayfair, Overstock, Cymax, Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, RealRooms, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Mathis Brothers, Baileys Furniture Outlet, Rona, Big Lots, and Nebraska Furniture Mart from May 2021 through April 2024 for about $900.

The agency warned consumers to stop using the wall beds immediately and to contact Dorel for information on coordinating for reimbursable professional inspection and, if necessary, reinstallation, after submitting their professional quote to Dorel.

The company is directly contacting owners of the recalled item, the CPSC noted. Owners of the affected wall beds can contact Dorel Home Furnishings at 888-828-8620 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected].
