Food security is back in the spotlight in China: The Chinese Communist Party is encouraging citizens to add something called rice bran into their diets.
The news comes from a recent directive, triggering questions about whether the country really has as much food supplies as Beijing claims.
Rice bran is a byproduct of the rice milling process and comes from the outer layer of rice grains. The fiber is mainly used as livestock feed or fuel while it is also pressed into cooking oil.
