Up to 20,000 T-Mobile users reported phone service issues on Tuesday afternoon.
The website Downdetector.com, which tracks online reports of technology outages, indicated that disruptions began around 1:45 p.m. ET, reaching a peak of over 19,000 reports by 2:30 p.m. ET. Most reports showed users lacked a signal, with some experiencing a complete blackout.
Users in Utah reported a widespread outage that left them without service, resulting in dropped calls and unsent text messages. Some also noted a lack of internet connectivity due to the disruption.
The provider has since confirmed that these issues have been resolved.
“How much are you taking off my phone bill next month for this outage in Utah?”One person said on X.
Another said, “If you’re getting the suggestion to use Satelite messaging, you are likely a @TMobile customer in Utah today.”
T-Mobile attributed the disruption to a mechanical issue at a facility in the Salt Lake area, which has now been resolved. The company advised customers still facing problems to reboot their phones.
“A facility in the Salt Lake area had a brief mechanical issue that impacted connectivity for some customers in that market, but this is now resolved and service is restored. We apologize for the inconvenience,” a T-Mobile statement obtained by USA Today said.
According to Downdetector’s outage map, service disruptions have also been reported in other major cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Phoenix. These issues may be linked to customers in these areas attempting to contact friends and family in Utah.
As of now, T-Mobile has not issued an official statement regarding the service outage.
T-Mobile is not the only provider facing issues today; Verizon users in the Northeast also experienced service disruptions on Monday evening.
Early this morning, reports of service issues surged to over 40,000, a significant increase from fewer than 100 prior to the spike. The most affected areas included Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Alexandria, and Washington, D.C.
Outage reports surged between midnight and 2 a.m. ET, sparking widespread complaints on social media, with assurances that engineers were actively working to resolve the issue.
“A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast for a short period of time,” Verizon said in a social media post on Tuesday afternoon. “As soon as the issue was identified, our engineering teams quickly restored the service.”
