A New Jersey woman who bought a coffee for a man who happened to be short on some cash soon realized it was country star Keith Urban.
The encounter happened at a Wawa in Medford on Friday, Aug. 3.
Ruth Reed, a substitute teacher, said in a Facebook post that she had resolved to treat someone at Wawa once a week and has been doing so for the past three years.
She said she was standing behind Urban and a female companion when she heard Urban ask his companion whether she had a few dollars because he was short.
Reed jumped in and paid and explained why.
“He thanked me and asked my name,” Reed said. I asked him his and he told me it was Keith. I said that he did look like Keith Urban, he said he was.”
My favorite story of the day is how my 3rd grade teacher thought @KeithUrban was down on his luck and couldn’t pay for his wawa snacks so she bought them for him. What an angel. pic.twitter.com/mJccVOQWtp

Reed didn’t fully believe, though, until she spoke to the singer’s bodyguard.
“It was then I realized what an idiot I was,” she wrote.
Urban performed at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden later on Friday.
A number of Reed’s former students commented on the Facebook post, reported the New Jersey Advance Media.
“Ruth was an amazing elementary school teacher in Medford for many years until she retired,” said Miriam Wilt Coll. “Now she continues to give back to the schools by subbing and volunteering. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer person!”
“Lucky you Keith Urban! You got to meet one of the nicest ladies in Medford!,” added Patty Brandt Rosvold.
