Water levels have been rising on Hungary’s Danube River, flooding embankment roads in the country’s capital Budapest on Thursday.
Snow melt due to heavy snowfall followed by mild weather in the Danube’s catchment basin led to an increase in water flow in the river and its tributaries.
Hungary’s General Directorate of Water Management predicts the water level will rise slightly higher on Thursday, with a peak of around 700 centimeters (23 feet) expected in Budapest.
