The Democratic and Republican vice presidential nominees will square off in their first debate next Tuesday. This will perhaps be their biggest chance to let voters get to know them better as well as make their case for their respective campaigns and running mates.

The debate will be hosted by CBS News at its New York studios. The rules are reportedly still under negotiation.

In the past vice presidential debates usually didn’t generate a whole lot of buzz when compared to their presidential counterparts. However, this year’s debate looks like it has a chance to gain a lot of viewers as the VP candidates have been gaining more attention than in previous elections.

The most watched vice presidential debate was in 2008 between Joe Biden, who was a Delaware senator at the time, and Sarah Palin, who was the governor of Alaska.
