The United States has stated its opposition to a draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.
“We do not support calls for an immediate cease-fire,” deputy ambassador Robert Wood said at the U.N. on Friday. “This would only plant the seeds for the next war, because Hamas has no desire to see a durable peace, to see a two-state solution.”
The council was scheduled to hold a meeting later on Friday to vote on the demand made by the United Arab Emirates, a current member nation of the Security Council, for the cessation of hostilities.
