As concerns about TikTok’s data security grow, NTD takes a closer look at what could happen to the popular social media app in the United States.
Right now, Congress is debating whether or not to ban the app nationwide. One way TikTok could potentially save its U.S. operations is by selling itself to an American company. This would potentially sever its ties to its Chinese parent company Bytedance, and ease concerns about the Chinese regime having access to its data.
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) is among those who have proposed a nationwide ban. Gallagher says that if TikTok sells itself to an American company, this would be a “workable solution.” But would that really solve the problem? NTD spoke to Jake Denton, a research associate at the Heritage Foundation, for his thoughts.
