In late July, a stabbing in Southport, England saw three children killed and 10 others wounded. The attack sparked riots and protests across the country.

Since then, racial slurs have been spray-painted on walls, cars were set on fire, and mosques have been targeted. Graham Wettone, a former UK police officer and a policing consultant, spoke to NTD about what caused these protests to escalate—and what police can do to deal with such large-scale public unrest.
