A 37-year-old man from Tennessee has been charged with making alleged threats against President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as a former president, according to the Western District of Tennessee U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“On July 27, 2024, Kyl Alton Hall, 37, made numerous posts on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter),” the office said.
“Specifically, in the posts, he threatened to kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane of President Biden; assassinate Vice President Harris; and assassinate former President Obama.”
According to an Aug. 20 federal indictment, Hall is charged with two counts of threats to a sitting president and vice president, and one count of a threat to a former president, with each charge carrying a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.
Two weeks after the alleged social media posts by Hall, an attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life was made by a shooter during a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, which led to calls from both sides of politics against political violence.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that the U.S. Secret Service was responsible for investigating the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Will Crow from the office’s National Security and Civil Rights Unit.
“The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence,” it added. “The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.”
Earlier this month, a man from Virginia was arrested on similar charges after allegedly making multiple violent threats against Vice President Kamala Harris on the social media platform GETTR.
The alleged threats were posted less than a week after President Biden announced that he wouldn’t seek reelection and proclaimed his official endorsement of Harris for November’s presidential election.
NTD has contacted the U.S. Attorney’s Office for further information about the incident.
