Supreme Court Rules on 3 Key Cases

The Supreme Court sided with Joseph Fischer, a Jan. 6 defendant who challenged his charge of obstructing an official proceeding. The ruling could affect about 350 Jan. 6 defendants with the same charge, including former President Donald Trump.

In another ruling, the Supreme Court overturned the 1984 ruling Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. From now on, federal agencies no longer have as much power to interpret the law when the language is unclear.

The Supreme Court also ruled that cities can ban homeless people from sleeping outside in West Coast areas. The justices decided that the city of Grants Pass, Oregon, could punish homeless people for sleeping outdoors on public property.
