Shortages at U.S. grocery stores have grown worse in recent weeks. Typically, 5–10 percent of items are out of stock at any given time, but right now, it’s around 15 percent, according to the Consumer Brands Association.

Reasons for these challenges include surging Omicron cases taking workers off their shifts, weather emergencies impacting deliveries, and high consumer demand.
