Shen Yun performing arts returned to Phoenix, Arizona this season, bringing six performances to the stage from Feb. 18 to the 22.
“Magnificent such talent, and such beauty in the presentation of it,” said Sarah Hinze, an award-winning filmmaker and an author.
“It was breathtaking. And something I’ll remember forever,” said Kira Brewer, the owner of a coffee shop called Yosippity.
“Everything was perfect. In fact, I forgot there was even an orchestra, I was thinking it was a soundtrack, everything was so perfect. And then when they would jump off the screen and on the screen, that blew me away, it was incredible,” she added.
“It was so beautiful, the dancing, the music, the singers, everyone is so committed. And it’s just such a beautiful experience that they brought our city and I hope that many people more will be able to experience this,” said Damian Creamer, the CEO and founder of StrongMind.
“The show is absolutely beautiful, very moving, very touching. The dancers are very talented and absolutely gorgeous. The choreography is perfect, and it’s just very delightful,” said Dr. Susan Hurley, a physician.
Eduardo Galvan, a senior component engineer at Arizona Public Service, brought his family and children to watch the show. He said his 7-year-old daughter cried during the show. “I looked over at my daughter during one of the shows, during one of the stories, and there was a tear in her eye. And I just thought that was very impactful. I think it’s something she’ll remember for the rest of her life,”
Shen Yun is a New York-based company that combines classical Chinese dance with a live orchestra and a detailed backdrop.
“It’s a beautiful story about how to reset and where to go, to kind of find truth,” Mr. Creamer said.
“It is so inspirational what you have done. Because you’re teaching eternal truth that I didn’t know, it comes from the Chinese. Like 5,000 years ago, I didn’t know so many of those things that you teach. And I just love it. I love it.” Ms. Hinze said.
“What resonated with me the most was the way the dancers connected with that inner spirit that connected them with their religion and their culture. And that sense of higher being. The dancers kind of transcend that to the audience,” Dr. Hurley said.
Many pointed out the traditional values in Shen Yun’s storytelling.
“One of the performances in particular about truth, compassion, forbearance, along with the story that was told that hit home. That was a heartwarming story,’ said Taylor McGilvray, a managing director at Ardent Advisory Group.
“As each year passes with each generation, but especially now. And you’ve got division and every generation of humankind, but particularly now. And I think it just naturally resonates across years, with anybody who stops to think and reflect on what life is about in terms of ultimate values,” He added.
“You’re bringing forth a new world. I love that, that’s perfect, and fits a lot of cultural and even religious traditions throughout the world,” Ms. Hinze said.
“Thank you for all the time you put into developing your talents over the years,” she added. “You did create a sense of godliness in the human in the human soul, you really created that.”
Shen Yun will tour in 11 cities simultaneously around the world this week.
