Shen Yun performed for audiences at the Kobe Bunka Hall in Japan on Feb. 11 and 12. The company uses classical Chinese dance, music, costume, and visual backdrops in tandem—transporting theatergoers through a 5,000-year journey of traditional culture.
“Dancers and singers, supplemented by the live orchestra and dazzling costumes, the stage, and the backdrop are perfectly integrated. The immersive feeling was great and it opened my eyes,” said Nobuo Kamioka, a radio host.
“China’s 5,000 years of history should be cherished more. I feel again that it is precisely because of history that we are where we are today,” said Seigo Yasui, former president of Nara Nishi Rotary Club.
“It’s very luxurious and very beautiful. I hope people all over the world can come and see Shen Yun. There is a saying that, ‘It is better to see something once, than to hear about it a hundred times.’ Shen Yun is a real art, I think her power will transcend national boundaries and nations and spread throughout the world,” said Takuji Ooya, assembly member of Hyogo Prefectural Assembly.
Shen Yun’s performances depict stories from ancient Chinese legends to modern China, including issues surrounding communist China’s suppression of spirituality—which has led to a persecution of faith groups such as Falun Gong.
“The story is very clear, and I felt that the hardships faced by Falun Gong practitioners on the Chinese mainland were clearly reflected in the short story. … The Japanese media should report and publish the facts to the world. I will also do my own part to speak out to expose the truth,” said Takeshi Nagase, assembly member of Hyogo Prefectural Assembly.
“While the persecution in mainland China continues, [Shen Yun] dares to reveal the truth about the persecution. I think this courage is very admirable. I hope that through the program, people around the world will expose the current situation of the CCP’s persecution of human rights,” said Michitaka Nakamura, an executive of a food processing and sales company.
“The artists have been exposing the persecution for many years. They have worked very hard. I will always support you,” said Mr. Ooya.
Ancient Chinese culture is deeply rooted in spirituality, faith, and moral values. Shen Yun brings these values to the stage through the medium of classical dance and music.
“The dance was very impressive. Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I was deeply moved by the message,” said Toshiya Honda, a judicial scribe.
“Great art is the link between God and man. Its beauty is expressed through art. This made me think that maybe we can be saved. … But the charm was expressed through dance dramas and dance shows,” said Kinya Maeda, chairman of a social insurance institution.
“Belief in the existence of God and the Creator can bring peace to the mind, so ‘faith’ is a very good thing. Faith is very important and necessary. In order to survive safely in this world, faith is necessary,” said Sho Sugitani, a Japanese national agency judge.
Shen Yun will conclude its Japan tour at the Fukuoka Sunpalace Hotel and Hall on Feb. 15 and 16.
