After two performances in Nice, the much-awaited company, Shen Yun Performing Arts, has arrived in Aix-en-Provence where the show has been sold out for several months already.
Corinne Micchi is a ballet teacher. On Thursday, April 4, she enjoyed discovering Shen Yun’s classical Chinese dance at the Grand Théâtre de Provence.
“I really appreciate the aesthetics, the sets, the different group formations, the training. And what was incredible was that at any moment the dancers changed formation without the spectator noticing, so we had a formation and all of a sudden, bang! another one, as if by magic. As if they were floating, it was great,” Micchi said.
Shen Yun’s spiritual side also caught Corinne Micchi’s attention. She said “we feel a direct connection, which does not go through religion but which is a connection of the individual to the divine … I really felt it and it was well communicated through the stories—we could really feel the presence of the divine in connection with the earth, through the light rays, the smoke etc., there were many visual effects which, I think, were intended to accentuate this relationship to the divine.”
According to its program book, New York-based Shen Yun brings to the stage the glory of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through works of classical Chinese dance, ethnic and folk dance, an outstanding orchestra that brings together Chinese and Western instruments, as well as vocal and instrumental soloists.
The audience said that the whole production, which is largely classical Chinese dance, reminded them of the beauty of art and how it is beneficial to people and the world at large.
“There is a wonderful tradition, exceptional values of beauty, purity, and I loved it very much because today we live in a world, especially in Europe, very turbulent, where the markers are a little lost,” said André Joyeux, Chest and Cardiovascular Surgeon. And that sets the record straight, as they say in France.”
“It’s very positive, it’s soothing, and I think a lot of French people should come to shows like this,” Joyeux said. “We leave one world to enter another but it is very beautiful with purity, sincerity, and it is very pleasant.”
