Shen Yun returned to Dallas with three performances at the Music Hall at Fair Park over the weekend. Audience members were amazed by the presentation of China’s rich history through classical Chinese dance.
“It was a gift to bring to Dallas,” said Daniel Jones, the founder and CEO of KG1 Texas which is a private golf academy.
“Phenomenal, phenomenal performance, flawless,” said Woodrow Flowers who is a leader in IT and Architecture.
Jason Smith, the owner of Smith & Associates Real Estate Services said, “Amazing, just beautiful, it was so special to share that culture, it really was.”
“It was very surprising,” said Leonardo Costa, the president of Capt. Peacock Yachts & Expeditions Inc. “And we didn’t expect it to be as fun as it was. At the same time, it was very informative. It was really nice to see the history of China and all the dancers, and the quality of the show was amazing.”
Theatergoers were also impressed by the Erhu—a unique two-stringed instrument with over 4,000 years of history. “How that instrument sings. It was beautiful,” said Mr. Flowers. “I kind of want to get one and try it out.”
Mr. Smith also said, “I’m a musician as well. And so the tone of that instrument was really amazing to me, and I’m going to look further into it because it was just beautiful.”
Many were moved by Shen Yun’s mission to bring back 5,000 years of divinely inspired traditions and culture, which was mostly destroyed by communism.
“Underlying the whole program was the divine, the presence, the God—the depth to the performance,” Mr. Jones said.
Mr. Flowers said, “It’s probably more critical now than any other time, with the divides that you see happening across the world and cultures.” He added, “We all definitely need to think about God and God’s presence in our lives, in order to be able to help navigate all these things that are happening and this show is bringing that.”
“It’s moving, it’s special. And it’s hard to see things like that because we’ve missed it in our culture so much,” Mr. Smith said.
One of the dances depicts the current persecution of Falun Dafa, a spiritual discipline that incorporates meditation exercises and the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
“That made me cry,” Mr. Smith said. “To see it come on the stage in such a reality and be shown in such a kind way too. It was very dignified.”
“All humanity should share in that [Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance]. We can have different religions and share kindness. And that was beautiful. And I really enjoyed it. I really did,” he said.
The New York-based performing arts group tours the world simultaneously with eight equally large companies, bringing new music and choreography every year.
“Thank you for creating such a beautiful performance. Thank you for letting me share in it,” Mr. Smith said.
“Bring more, let’s keep it, keep more of that going. Send it around everywhere,” Mr. Jones said.
“Congratulations on achieving it. And I hope to see more and we’ll be back,” Mr. Flowers said.
Shen Yun will travel to four more cities in Texas next month, including San Antonio and El Paso.
