From March 16 to 18, Shen Yun Performing Arts performed at Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest city.
The performance presents China’s 5,000-year-old culture with stories told through dances, bel canto style opera solos, and a live orchestra.
“I love it. It’s beautiful, It’s gracious, it’s balletic, it’s acrobatic, it has storytelling and culture and history, it’s just beautiful, ” said Mary Radzimowski an attorney at the Law Office of Mary L. Radzimowski. “It’s really a feast for the senses and I am so glad I came.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revitalize the essence of Chinese culture, which began with the Yellow Emperor, a Taoist cultivator, about 2,697 B.C.
Throughout China’s history, there have been three main schools of thought that have influenced the Chinese belief systems: Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. It is from these that Shen Yun’s dances and lyrics draw inspiration.
“It’s a universal goal to get back to heaven and to treat our fellow man with respect and dignity and there’s so much of that missing in the world today that it’s nice to see that it is a universal message that’s across the world,” said Howard Floeter, an architectural designer.
“The message would be about the creative being, about the person or spiritual being that is above us and that can be within us to go and make the world a better place,” said Alec Gould, a writer.
“And to produce the show which really tries to restore traditional Chinese culture, which is so beautiful when you see it. And then the colors, you know the color and the beauty and the costumes, taken all together, it’s just beautiful,” said Radzimowski.
“It crosses all religious sects. It’s a universal message of we live, we should live gratefully, we should live good, we should live in peace,” said Kathleen Whitcroft, a painter. “And if we live like this we will always have our eternal reward.”
