‘Magical’: Shen Yun Enchants Audience in London

February 6, 2024

Audience members watching Shen Yun performing arts in London’s Eventim Apollo were left enchanted.

Radhika Ravichander, a doctor, said she almost felt she was transported to a “different realm” of “celestial beings.”

“That’s how it felt, it was magical,” she said.

A seamless blend of dancing, live music, and a 3D backdrop transports the audience from ancient dynasties to heavenly scenes.

“This is totally unbelievable. This is a one-off. There’s no other show like it in the world that I have encountered,” said Desmond Thompson, a producer.

Managing director Michael Bishop was amazed by the synchronicity of the dancers. “The way they do it in sequence with each other, that to me, is most fantastic,” he said. “Because I’m looking to see whether one of them steps out of place, and there was not one piece, one position that I could see them out of place.”

He added: “Don’t change it in any way. Your performance was fantastic.”

China’s rich history goes back 5,000 years, and Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s authentic culture. Under Chinese communist rule, it was almost lost.

Shen Yun performances also include stories from modern-day China.

Lynn Lambert, a councilor, described the performers as brave. “People need to know what China was like before communism, before they were so oppressed,” she said. “And I think they’re very brave to come out here and tell it, and tell their stories so that other people know what’s happening and what’s happened to them.”

This year’s shows in London have come to a close. They’ll continue their UK tour in Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Llandudno.
