‘Impressive’ and Incredible’: Paris Audience Marvel at Shen Yun’s Artistry

May 8, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully closed the curtain on two performances–in Paris, France–on May 2 and May 3. Audience members left the theater—saying they valued the opportunity—to learn about traditional Chinese culture.

“I think it’s magnificent. A show made of poetry, technique, and charm,” said David Emmanuel, an attorney.

“I loved the show because it was so moving and humble, and the art and storytelling were so great,” said Audrey Pagot, an attorney.

“I loved it. I like the dexterity of the actors, the dancers. I also really liked the costumes, which were very varied,” said Jean-Marie Krajewski, the former mayor of Berck-sur-Mer. “There’s certainly a lot of joy, and I think that the philosophy of the show is also something that requires us to reflect.”

Shen Yun draws its inspiration from China’s 5,000 years of civilization. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture was inspired by the Divine. Theatergoers also took note of a deeper message.

“Kindness, benevolence: These are values which are conveyed each time in every performance,” said Emilie Deffayet, a business owner. “Especially compassion and faith, which are well-conveyed, presented by each artist, and expressed through words, such as the host’s explanation and the tenor’s singing.”

“It’s always been a great mystery for man to have religion above him, even if that’s been lost a little now. That’s what we can appreciate about the Chinese people, is that they always have this sense of culture that’s very, very present,” said Vincent Beyron, the owner of VB Conseil.

Monique Michelon, a former business owner, said, “It was very beautiful. And to discover all these Chinese stories that we don’t know, and all these dances. It was fabulous, very beautiful.”

“Congratulations to the performers. Great collective movement and very good teachings. You can tell there’s lots and lots of work behind it,” said Mr. Beyron.

Shen Yun will perform in Amnéville, France, from May 8 through May 10.
