Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully closed the curtain on two performances in the city of Daegu on May 11—the company’s last destination in South Korea. It was a full house and audience members described the performance as magical.
“Each dancer was absolutely incredible, and the color matching of the costumes was also outstanding. The whole performance was dreamy, magical, and awe-inspiring. The three-dimensional, dynamic screen was amazing. If the music had been too strong, it would have overpowered the pieces, but it perfectly complemented the performance. [Shen Yun is] a magical performance worth watching—you’ll be amazed,” said Do Ki-bong, the head of Daegu Youth, Health, and Culture Center.
“Everything left a deep impression on me. The dancers did an amazing job embodying the spirit of ancient times and expressing that on the modern stage. That is something that people all over the world would be amazed to see,” said Moon Shin-ja, the chairman of Hallyu Cultural Artist Promotion Foundation.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture and virtues. Many theatergoers said that the traditional values presented by Shen Yun and its artists bring positivity to the modern world.
“The three words ‘truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance’ were shown in the scene. And seen from a certain perspective, these are the values that our society must follow in order to become harmonious. I believe that this performance tries to realize these values and it conveys an important message to all communities worldwide,” said Baek Seung-dae, an emeritus professor at Lingnan University.
“We’re living amongst the millennial and Gen Z generations, and our modern society emphasizes individualism. People prioritize their own comfort, their own improvement, and personal satisfaction. And the result is—as you mentioned—that traditional values are overlooked in today’s society,” said Lee Shin-young, the head of Content Business Group Star World Mall Co.
Shen Yun’s name means “the beauty of divine beings dancing” in English, echoing the roots of spirituality in traditional Chinese culture.
“[Shen Yun’s] music, staging, and dance are imbued with a sense of grace that is a rarity. The show is an opportunity to experience this type of divine atmosphere, so I think it’s worth watching the show,” said Mr. Baek.
“It was deeply, deeply moving. It’s moving because the stage of Heaven has come to the Earth. It’s moving because this performance made me joyful once again. It’s moving because it gives me hope that our world will once again be filled with peace in the near future. It was so wonderful. Thank you very much, Shen Yun,” said Lee Jin-woo, the president of the Korean International Ambulance Agency.
“I always knew that Chinese culture was grand, but today I realized that it’s far bigger than I imagined. This is the first time I’ve seen such a vast culture being expressed with dance. It’s amazing. Rather than expressing it in words, it’s easier to understand the feeling through dance. I want to recommend that everyone come and see it in person,” said Park Mi-sook, an agency network representative.
Shen Yun presents an all-new program for audiences to enjoy every season.
