MILAN, Italy—Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully concluded its performances this weekend in Milan, Italy, bringing audiences a display of China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
For Eliano Rinaldo Calamaro, an orchestra professor, this was his second time seeing a Shen Yun performance.
“I am delighted to be back and see this magnificent show again. From all points of view—theatrical, musical, and direction—everything is exciting. It is historically very interesting and does not leave a moment of distraction,” Mr. Calamaro said.
Marco Di Pilato, a designer, said: “I was fascinated by the fact that these artists have the mission of bringing ancient Chinese culture back to life. I think it’s a message that is useful to our civilization, which I think needs these testimonies.”
Interior designer Martino Chiavegato said: “The dances absolutely go together with the costumes and colors. This is a representation of a very deep China that we don’t know of.”
Daniela Casaburi, who is a soprano herself, said she comes to see Shen Yun perform every year.
“I enjoyed this show so much. It brings together spirituality and the beauty of art. The marriage of all the arts in perfection and spirituality. We never miss it, we come every year,” she said.
Theatergoers said they appreciated the traditional values that Shen Yun presents, and took note of the performance’s message.
“I must say it’s a very engaging show. Besides beauty, the skill of the professionals—the dancers—it also conveys universal values, which I believe should be promoted and spread,” said Marco Bestetti, who is a regional counselor of Lombardy.
“The message is that of freedom. Freedom of expression, freedom to express one’s art,” said Giuseppe Indovino, a lawyer.
Sergio Mungo, who is a neurologist, said: “I think [the message is] fundamental. Because simple materialism has led us nowhere and the rediscovery of the spiritual dimension is what distinguishes us from all other living species.”
“It’s a message that is not only good to receive but I would say that we need it, and I mean always. We live in a period where we just went through a pandemic, followed by one thing after the other. Therefore I believe that these messages are useful, they are good for people. For their health and for the continuation of life,” added Mr. Calamaro.
“In this moment of conflict, I think it is the most beautiful message. The message of peace, of freedom, of expression, of speech and of belief,” said Monica Pullara, who is a psychologist.
Shen Yun Performing Arts has a new program every year, including original dances, stories, songs, and backdrops.
“A great emotion just like from last year. It stayed with me and I reconnected with it, as if it was just yesterday,” said Mr. Calamaro.
“Thank you for this expression and knowledge, because cultures need this in this time,” said Ms. Pullara.
“My greatest compliments. I came with great curiosity and I go back with a wealth of culture and emotions that I would not have expected. I will certainly spread the message of this evening with my friends and loved ones,” said Marco Fertonani, CEO of Casa della Salute.
